Player Uno Interview~!

Posted in Interviews on December 23, 2009 by DKNathan

First question, just for those who don’t know who you are, who are you? Your name, who where you trained by, what promotions do you mainly work for, ect?

-Hi, I’m “the 8 Bit Luchador” Player Uno and I’m a video gaming/wrestling fanatic. You can see me regularly at CHIKARA Pro, C4 Wrestling, InterSpecies Wrestling and on occasion at Ring of Honor and North Shore Pro Wrestling as well as many other places. I was trained Crusher Klein, a student of Al Snow who later on was put in charge of Al Snow’s school’s teaching.

How did you get into wrestling?

-I was raised on it, really. Always watched it as a kid, my mom made me a regular viewer. At one point (the Attitude era), she wanted me to stop watching as it was too graphic and violent, but I secretly watched it then too. My best friend eventually found out there was a local wrestling school and I had to go. I had always claimed to my dad I’d become a wrestler, and he would just laugh. Well, I guess I showed him!

Is there any games you play besides NES? Such as…Original Gameboy?

-While I love NES, I play them all. I own every system made and have a pretty wide variety of games on all systems. Don’t discriminate is what I say!

There seems to be some tension with you and Player Dos, are you two still best friends forever?

-The tension is odd, that’s all I can really say about that. I’d love to tell you everything is gonna turn out great, and we’ll be tight forever, but I can’t read into the future. Time and actions will tell, I guess.

You were the Inter Species Champion for over a year and a half, until you were screwed over at the “4 Years of THIS!?” show, soon after defeating El Generico on that show. What’s your feelings on that? And any chance of a rematch?

-I’m still angry. It sucks to see you get screwed out of something you’ve worked so hard to earn and maintain. Giant Tiger is a disgrace, and if given the chance, I have no doubt I’d get my belt back. I guess time will tell on this one as well, but I would for sure have a “rematch” of sorts.

Who are your dream opponents and tag team partners?

-I never know what to answer to this one. I’d love to tag and wrestle everyone out there, some more than others, but none really would top a list. It’s pretty confusing. I’d love to work some of the top talent in the indys and on TV. Shawn Michaels, Jericho, Chris Hero, Jerry Lynn, Kenny Omega, Conquistador 1231312312314123… Give me anyone, really. As for tag, I’d like to tag with Brodie Lee so I never have to be on the receiving end of his big boot ever again.

How did you get to be Player Uno? Gimmick idea wise

-Player Uno is just me. I had a lot of help from El Generico and others to really made me realize that the best way to succeed is to be yourself, and really, Player Uno is me. Fun loving & video gaming every day guy, who just so happens to wear a mask and love to beat the crap out of people on the weekends.

Have you reached your goal in wrestling yet?

-My goals always change, you can’t just have one goal, because then you get to it, and then what? I’ve done a lot of my earlier goals. Wrestling the ECW arena, wrestling in the states, wrestling for ROH, winning belts, heck just wrestling on it’s own is an accomplishment. I’d love to make it overseas and more on TV (I was on HD Net, woo!), but everything happens with time and hard work.

Do you still have hard feelings towards Delirious for calling Peach a tramp?

-I did publicly accept his apology on the night we took the Campeonas De Parajas away from Incoherence, but the words will always linger in the back of my head. He ain’t on the top of my X-Mas list, that’s for sure.

You and Player Dos are former Campeonas De Parajas, and you are also currently shooting for the Young Lions Cup. Once you win it, or Dos’ reign ends, will the two of you attempt to become two time champs?

-At the very moment, that Young Lions Cup is my main goal. As for being two time champs, I would love to be. It’s just a matter of seeing if Dos is up for it or if we can even work together anymore. I guess we’ll see what happens. I’m hoping for the best.

How do you come up with all your fancy moves? Do you have a favorite move?

-A lot of moves I do are just tributes to video games I play. As for the games I’ve invented on my own, it just happens from training. I’m a big fan of my electric chair craddle breaker (which you might know as the Game Genie) which I actually invented by giving it to my friend’s younger brother by accident. He was like 7.

If the WWE or TNA came calling, would you sign on, or are you happy wrestling for the smaller promotions?

-I’m happy wrestling for “smaller” promotions, but i would definitely accept. I don’t know how long I would last there, but I couldn’t say no to such a huge opportunity. A lot of people go through a lot of hard work and dedicate their lives to get to one of the Big 2 and never get a shot, I would not want to be the one who refused.

IT’S TIME FOR SOME EVEN RANDOMER QUESTIONS :D:D:D
What is your favorite music?

-I like all music. My playlist right now varies from Jay Z, to the Flobots, to Armcannon, to the Misfits, to Eminem, to Journey, to Miley Cyrus (only one song though), to Metallica, to Michael Jackson, to Kid Rock, to Sheryl Crow… I think you get the point :)

I heard you like Roseanne, Is that true?

-This is fact. Roseanne is my guilty late night viewing.

The Final, Mind numbing question…Will you become the 16-Bit Luchador? Ever?

-Everyone’s gotta get an upgrade one day, I’m sure mine will eventually happen.

The Stardy Report #1

Eddie Edwards FTW
Eddie Edwards: Future Of ROH?
The Stardy Report #1

Yeah, the title may seem crazy, but honestly, right now, he is perfect. With the departures of their top stars in Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness, ROH has now got a huge gap in their main event scene. Obviously, they have enough talent in the Upper Midcard and Midcard Scene to push, guys like Tyler Black, Jimmy Rave, Colt Cabana, Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli, Kevin Steen, Davey Richards, hell I’ll throw Delirious, Brodie Lee and El Generico in there as well, all of them are good options to push into the Main Event Scene/World Title Scene, even if they end up not winning it once, they could do a damn fine job chasing the belt anyhow. But, after tonight, going from the reports, a new name has been added to the list, in my opinion anyway, and he is Eddie Edwards.

In case you didn’t know, Eddie Edwards is a trainee of Killer Kowalski, making his pro debut in 2002, and his ROH debut at the start of 2007. He is a former Four Time NECW Unified Tag Team Champion, Winner of the 2007 Iron 8 Tournament, TRP Heavyweight Champion, MWF Television Champion, toured with NOAH and one half of the current ROH Tag Team Champions with Davey Richards, forming one of the more dominant tag teams in ROH’s recent history, The American Wolves (The team coming from their former affiliation with Sweet N Sour Inc.). In the team, Eddie Edwards has improved ten fold, going from a decent undercard worker to making himself an Upper Midcarder, mostly thanks to Richards, in a guess, but all this improvement has, in my opinion anyway, made him even better than Davey currently (GASP!). He doesn’t exactly have a ton of Charisma, but neither does a lot of ROH’s Stars, and most of the time, it doesn’t matter. He’s had himself some good matches with most of the roster, proved he can be a dominant wrestler as well, like he (and Davey) proved against Orange Cassidy and Leslie Butterscotch (My favorite Squash Match of all time, as of right now anyway), and yeah, but he never really came off to me as the future of wrestling. I mean, for gods sake, his name is Eddie Edwards.

But, then, last night, he worked the second ever Ladder War Match in ROH history, proved by the first as one of their most hardcore matches ever, teaming up with Davey Richards to take on El Generico and Kevin Steen. WITH A BROKEN ELBOW. If that didn’t show he has heart and dedication for the business, then I really don’t know how else he is supposed to show it. He seems to love what he does, and made a brave yet stupid decision for ROH, so he obviously respects the company a lot as well. Factor that into the talent and his current card posistion like I mentioned before, and you can’t help but think they he is going to end up going places. I can honestly say, that if Tyler Black is pegged as the future of ROH, then I would throw Eddie Edwards as another person to look forward to in the future as well, and I when Austin Aries loses the title belt or turns face, I’d like to see whoever it is give Edwards a shot (Nigel gave everybody from El Generico to Tyler Black title shots, and Austin Aries is doing the whole “drawing names from the hat” thing, defending the belt against everybody from Grizzly Redwood to Petey Williams), and if the match ends up being good, then awesome, see what you can do with him from there.

And yeah, currently looking at ROH, Edwards has a bright future ahead of him. Him and Davey make a good team, and they should team up for a while more, since there is no point in splitting up a good thing, but in a few years time, when it’s blown over, I can honestly say that, despite the generic jobber name, I could see Edwards main eventing ROH Shows. I don’t see the ROH Title in his distance, but I could see a couple of title shots for him possibly. But yeah, in conclusion, Tyler Black gets thrown about as a name for the future, I brought up another one who could really go far, if used right and he doesn’t do anything stupid that will end his career.

What’s your thoughts on him? Leave comments please.

Matt Riot Passes Away…

Posted in Wrestling News on September 16, 2009 by Trippy

RIP Matt Riot

While training yesterday, Matt Riot suffered an injury (Under CZW’s watch, apparently), and was instantly rushed to hospital, but passed away. He was 21.

Was a great talent waiting to break out, underrated by many. Worked for a lot of promotions I followed, including AIW and American Luchacore, and stated many times what he really wanted to do in wrestling was work for ROH. He also had a nice shirt, and had agreed to do an interview for Dropkick 3, he seemed like a really nice guy overall.

Rest In Peace, Matt. :(
